February Film Guide

Welcome to February. This month there are some great films out based on true events, grab the popcorn, get comfy and soak up some history (ish). 

Fifty Shades Freed 

Release date: 9th February

Newlyweds Christian and Ana fully embrace an inextricable connection in their shared life of luxury. But whilst starting to relax into unaccustomed stability and settling down for good, new threats emerge terrorising their future lives together.

The 15:17 to Paris  

Release date: 9th February

On August 21, 2015, the world was shocked as the media reported a thwarted terrorist attack on train #9364 bound for Paris- an attempt prevented by three phenomenally courageous young Americans traveling through Europe. By following the three friends' lives we see the series of unlikely events leading up to the attack and how their friendship not only prevailed throughout the harrowing ordeal, but how it lead them to save the lives of the more than 500 passengers on board.

 

The Mercy 

Release date: 9th February 

Academy Award winning director James Marsh unveils the true story of Donald Crowhurst, an infamous amateur sailor who competed in the 1968 Sunday Times Golden Globe Race. Despite the unfinished boat, family left behind, and minimal experience Donald set off in hope of becoming the first person to single-handedly circumnavigate the globe without stopping. With everything against him somehow Donald made it back alive.

I, Tonya   

Release date: 16th February

Based on the true story that shocked the world, Margot Robbie stars as Tonya, champion figure skater ill-accused of attacking a competitor. Having fought all her life to prove she was worth something, proving she was not involved in the attack set out to ruin her legacy forever.

 

Black Panther

Release date: 16th February

Following the events of 'Captain America: Civil War,’ T’Challa returns to his home nation, Wakanda, to take his place as King. But he is not the only one... When an old rival appears not only is T'Challa's place as King threatened, but so too is his legacy as the Black Panther and the welfare of his nation.

 

The Shape of Water 

Release date: 16th February

Set in a hidden, high-security government laboratory during the cold war, Elisa finds herself terribly lonely. All until she and co-worker Zelda discover a secret classified experiment that will change their lives forever.
